As we approach the holidays and a new year, weight loss looms heavy. Nothing could be easier than joining Weight Watchers for a discount, attending meetings right on campus, and having your colleagues encourage you! If you haven’t already noticed, UMW coworkers are disappearing . . . pounds at a time through Weight Watchers at Work (WW@W) held weekly on the Fredericksburg campus. UMW participants have shed nearly 900 pounds since the program began in October 2009.

You can join them. Get a jump on your New Year’s resolution and SAVE! A new WW@W session starts Wednesday, December 8.

Mark your calendars! During lunch from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 17th and Thursday, Nov. 18th, stop by Seacobeck’s faculty and staff dining room to learn how to spread holiday cheer to local children. This year, Community Outreach and Resources has agreed to fill 630 gift boxes for at-risk 3-5 year-olds in the Head Start programs of Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania County, and Stafford County, and we need your help! Pledge to fill one, two, or more boxes that will be hand-delivered to these children. Boxes are due in OSACS by Tuesday, Nov. 30th and should include a toothbrush, toothpaste, hat, mittens/gloves, small toys, books, and crayons. Don’t miss the opening reception of the UMW Galleries exhibition “Computer Pictures: The Contemporary Language of Digital Media” from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, October 28 in both the Ridderhof Martin and duPont galleries.

Artist Semi Ryu will give a live performance of “Parting on Z, Fredericksburg,” from 6 to 6:30 p.m. in Ridderhof Martin Gallery.  The performance focuses on the real-time emotional and physical interactions between a virtual puppet and its puppeteer.

At noon on Friday,  a panel discussion featuring some of the exhibition artists will be held in duPont Gallery.  Read the news release.

Anne Timpano’s linocut print, Venus as Paper Doll, was recently exhibited in the juried exhibition, 25^th Tallahassee International, at the FSU Museum of Fine Arts in Tallahassee, Florida.

It was one of 58 works selected from nearly 800 entries.  The print and an accompanying artist’s statement were published in the exhibition’s full color catalog..
