Herbert Gintis, Phi Beta Kappa Visiting Scholar, will be at UMW on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 18-19.  Gintis is external professor at the Santa Fe Institute and professor of economics at Central European University (Budapest) where he heads a multidisciplinary research project, “The Social and Mental Dynamics of Cooperation.”  He was professor of economics at the University of Massachusetts from 1976 to 2002.  In addition, he is the author of Game Theory Evolving and The Bounds of Reason; and a coauthor of Schooling in Capitalist America, Foundations of Human Sociality, Moral Sentiments and Material Interests and, forthcoming, A Cooperative Species.  He is an editor of the Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization and of Games.

Who Can Attend: Open to the public

Content: Fall is a great time for planting!  Bring whatever you have to share: perennials, saplings, bulbs, even gardening supplies you no longer use.  Please label all plants with a common name.  Bring your plants at 9 a.m. and browse around. The exchange will start promptly at 10 o’clock.  Following the exchange, join us as we plant native species to restore the riparian buffer at Woodard Campus Center.  Learn about this important natural filter and how you affect your watershed.
