Campus infrastructure project begins next week

The following message comes from Capital Outlay at UMW.

Athena Construction, UMW’s general contractor for the campus-wide underground utility project, has been mobilizing and will begin work next week, May 10, after our Commencement ceremonies. This project, which will run throughout the summer and into October, is for repair and replacement of Mary Washington’s aging steam and water system.

Initial work will include the installation of fencing and detour pathways in and around Woodard Hall and Kalnen Clock Plaza. Construction traffic will enter and exit via College Avenue near duPont Hall as materials are brought on site. Expect stacks of temporary fencing to begin appearing along Campus Walk.

The following week, beginning May 17, expect congested travel along Double Drive as the water line replacement begins near the Bell Tower. Be aware of construction vehicle movement and obey directions from traffic safety personnel.
