Janusz Konieczny and Former Students Publish in Algebra Colloquium

Janusz Konieczny, professor of mathematics, has co-authored a research article, Sn-normal semigroups of partial transformations, published in the journal Algebra Colloquium. The article has been written jointly with two UMW graduates, Sean Droms and Roberto Palomba, and contains the results of undergraduate research that Sean and Roberto did when they were mathematics students at the University of Mary Washington.

Keith Mellinger Publishes Research Article

Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Mathematics Keith Mellinger recently had his article “The de Bruijn–Erdős theorem for hypergraphs” published in the journal Designs, Codes and Cryptography.  The article was co-authored with mathematicians from the University of Illinois at Chicago, the University of California in San Diego, and Tel Aviv University, Israel.

Mathematics Students Present at JMU

Three UMW mathematics majors, Morgan Brown, Peter Slattery, and Andrew Cole, traveled to the Shenandoah Undergraduate Mathematics and Statistics conference – SUMS at JMU on Saturday, Sept. 29. The students presented their work completed under the direction of Dr. Leo Lee.  Morgan gave a talk “How to Win Every Time” and Peter presented his poster “The Wave Equation in One Dimension”.

Keith Mellinger Publishes Research Article
