The UMW community came together on a sunny Tuesday in March to take part in the third annual Mary Wash Giving Day, a 24-hour online fundraising event to benefit students and programs across the University. The day’s final donation total—after all online and offline gifts were counted—exceeded $600,000.

Donors from 45 states and nine countries, including alumni, faculty, staff, students, parents and friends of the University, made more than 4,000 gifts on Giving Day, surpassing the goal of 3,500. These results broke last year’s Giving Day record and represented a 34% increase in gifts and a 33% increase in dollars raised. Read more. 

Donors Go ‘All In’ to Break Mary Wash Giving Day Record

The UMW family, across the country and across the world, came together to make history Tuesday, March 19, on Mary Wash Giving Day.

During the 24-hour online fundraising marathon, donors in 45 states and seven countries made 3,533 gifts totaling $586,493* to benefit students and programs across the University, including the arts, academics, athletics, student life and scholarships. Each gift helps to ensure a strong future for Mary Washington and its students, continuing a longstanding tradition of dynamic donor support at the 111-year-old institution.

Donors exceeded the day’s lofty goal of 3,500 gifts and topped last year’s results, breaking the record for the largest day of giving in University history. On Giving Day in March 2018, supporters made 2,987 gifts totaling $449,631. Read more.

Today, March 14, 2019, marks 111 years since the Virginia General Assembly passed legislation establishing the State Normal and Industrial School at Fredericksburg, now the University of Mary Washington.

As UMW celebrates Founders Day – and more than a century of contributions to generations of students, the greater Fredericksburg region, and the betterment of society throughout the country and around the world – it also turns to the next 100 years.

Next week’s third annual Mary Wash Giving Day – Tuesday, March 19 – is a 24-hour extravaganza to celebrate all things Mary Washington. Alumni, faculty, staff, students, parents

and friends of UMW, far and wide, will come together to go “All In,” with a lofty goal of 3,500 gifts to honor Mary Washington’s past and fuel its future. Read more.
