Joanna Catron, assistant director and curator of Gari Melchers Home and Studio at Belmont

Gari Melchers Home and Studio cordially invites you to a farewell reception in honor of Assistant Director and Curator Joanna Catron on the occasion of her retirement. The event will take place at the GMHS Pavilion on Friday, September 22, 2023, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Joanna earned a B.A. in art history from Mary Washington College and an M.A. in art history with a concentration in museum training from George Washington University. She has served as curator of Gari Melchers Home and Studio since 1983, assuming the additional role of assistant director in 2018. She is the author of several articles on Melchers and his home and studio at Belmont; has been a contributing writer to numerous exhibition catalogs; and is a lecturer on the topics of Gari Melchers, American painting of the late-19th century, and the art market and craft of the forger. Over her 40 years’ service, Joanna became the world’s leading authority on Gari Melchers.
