This summer, UMW head field hockey coach Jamie Tierney and assistant coach Lindsey Heppner will trade the sidelines for the field as they represent the United States at the 2026 World Masters Hockey World Cup in the Netherlands.

Tierney will compete on the U.S. Women’s Over-45 team in Rotterdam, while Heppner will represent the United States on the Women’s Over-40 squad in Schiedam. The tournament runs July 22 through Aug. 1 for their divisions and is part of the 2026 World Masters Hockey World Cup, which features more than 400 teams from around the globe competing across Belgium and the Netherlands.

In an article by The Free Lance-Star titled “UMW Field Hockey Coaches to Represent USA at Masters World Cup,” Tierney reflected on the opportunity to compete alongside fellow athletes from around the world.

“I am very excited for the Masters World Cup and the opportunity to compete at a high level on the field and step back into the role as an athlete —being coached, learning from teammates, and seeing the game through a different perspective,” Tierney said. “The connections made along the way have been very special. Sharing this experience with people from around the world who have the same passion for field hockey is a reminder of how special this sport and its community truly are.”

The United States will be represented by 15 men’s and women’s teams across multiple age divisions, making this one of the country’s largest-ever Masters World Cup delegations. Read the full story in The Free Lance-Star.
