Stephen Farnsworth, professor of political science and director of the University’s Center for Leadership and Media Studies, gave a lecture entitled “International News and U.S. Foreign Policy,” at the U.S. State Department’s Institute for International Education Visitor Leadership Program for North Africa and the Middle East. The Washington, D.C., talk was based on Farnsworth’s new co-authored book, “The Global President.”

You’re invited to a National Security Lecture entitled “The Global President: International Media and the U.S. Government” on Monday, Nov. 18 from 8 to 10 a.m. at the UMW Dahlgren Campus in University Hall.
Stephen Farnsworth, professor of political science and director of UMW’s Center for Leadership and Media Studies, will provide an international examination of news coverage of U.S. political communication, and the roles the U.S. government and the presidency play in an increasingly communicative and interconnected political world.

Farnsworth and Hanna Co-Author Publication
Stephen Farnsworth, professor of political science and director of the University’s Center for Leadership and Media Studies, and Stephen Hanna, professor and chair of geography, are co-authors of a column, “Why Republicans lost in Virginia — in three great maps,” published on “The Fix” blog of the Washington Post on Nov. 12.
Their collaborations on Virginia politics also appeared this week on the Daily Kos blog and that of the New Republic.

Farnsworth Discusses Election on National Media
Stephen Farnsworth, professor of political science and director of the University’s Center for Leadership and Media Studies, delivered a lecture to foreign service officers at the U.S. State Department entitled, “International News about the US: Challenges for Public Diplomacy,” on Nov. 1. The talk was drawn from his new co-authored book, “The Global President: International Media and the US Government.”
In addition, Farnsworth has been interviewed by a number of media outlets on the campaign for Governor of Virginia.
