Professor of Psychology Chris Kilmartin is the recipient of the 2015 Waple Faculty Professional Achievement Award. The award, was announced during the General Faculty Meeting on April 22, was established in honor of Shirley Van Epps Waple.
Based on faculty nominations, the award recognizes a wide range of professional accomplishments undertaken during the faculty member’s time at UMW. In its third year, the award is based on the significance and impact of the faculty nominee’s scholarly, creative, and/or professional achievement. The winner must have been a full time faculty member for at least seven years.
Kilmartin began his career at UMW in 1989 and was recognized for his breadth of professional experiences, including:
- He has been a Fulbright Fellow and a Distinguished Visiting Professor
- He has published numerous peer-reviewed publications, chapters in a wide range of books, and published a textbook that has been re-released in several editions
- He has been invited as a trainer and workshop leader at many Universities, and professional associations
- He has served as a Chair, Discussant and Keynote Speaker at conferences around the world
- He has been a scriptwriter and consultant for instructional films, and is the author of a solo performance piece on men’s issues that has been performed over 200 times
- He has served as a counselor at the University of Mary Washington’s counseling center.
