The University of Mary Washington Staff Advisory Council is joining forces with Campus Dining, UMW Athletes, and the UMW Bookstore in supporting Sodexo’s annual “STOP Hunger” food drive. Between November 6 and November 13, all donations made to the “One Can Hope” food drive will be added to the “STOP Hunger” drive in hopes of collecting 25,000 pounds of food to benefit the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank.
The “STOP Hunger” food drive will launch on Friday, Nov. 6 with a curb-side food collection from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on College Avenue in front of Seacobeck Hall. Radio 99.3 “The Vibe” will be broadcasting live during the event. Everyone dropping off food donations on Friday will be entered in a drawing to win free concert tickets, courtesy of “The Vibe.” Canned goods will also be available on site, which you can purchase and donate to the drive. The food bank has recently expressed concerns that they may not have enough turkeys for area families this Thanksgiving, so we will gladly accept monetary donations that will help purchase more turkeys.
Donation bins for canned goods are located in all dining facilties, the UMW Bookstore, and many other campus buildings. A Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank van will be located in Ball Circle from November 9-13, and donations may also be dropped off there.
