To the UMW community:
As you probably are aware, the White House issued an executive order last Friday barring entrance into the United States for at least 90 days by citizens of seven countries: Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen. The same order suspends the United States’ refugee resettlement program for 120 days. In the days following, multiple federal courts acted to temporarily stay certain portions of the executive order and enable some of those affected to enter the country. At the present time, there remains much uncertainty and confusion regarding the ultimate impact of this executive action.
Please know that the University of Mary Washington is doing all within its power to provide support to any students, staff, and faculty who might be affected by this order. The Center for International Education has been in direct contact with any citizens of the named countries who are attending or working at UMW. Other community members with specific questions may also contact the Center, located on the fourth floor of Lee Hall (654-1434 or jsainz@umw.edu). For any students experiencing anxiety, the Talley Center on the first floor of Lee Hall is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays (540-654-1053).
