Virginia Hall Renovations – Construction Update and Logistics Plan

The following message is from Facilities Services.

To the campus community:

On Monday, February 24,  major work will begin on the Virginia Hall Renovation project. The project is expected to take approximately 16 months with substantial completion in the summer of 2021. Because of the project’s central location, access will be from College Avenue via the service lot to the north of the University Center with temporary access and project fencing extending from this parking lot to the west side of Virginia Hall (see attached logistics plan). UMW Virginia – Logistics Plan 2.12.20_Seacobeck EDIT

Key elements of the logistics plan will be implemented based on the following schedule and subject to the weather:

  • February 24 – March 10: Demo and relocate golf cart charging station behind the U.C.
  • February 27 – March 6:  Install temporary accessible walkway on Ball Circle.
  • February 28 – March 19:  Install construction fencing, perimeter controls, and tree protection around Virginia Hall.
  • March 20 – 23:  Remove portion of brick wall on the east side of the U.C. service lot.
  • March 24 – 30:  Install construction access road.

While this plan has been coordinated with various UMW stakeholders, it is understood that plans will need to be adapted as work progresses. We are currently coordinating with Parking Management to relocate accessible parking spaces that will temporarily be lost in the UC service lot.

Further updates will be provided to keep the UMW community informed regarding the logistics plan and construction progress. We appreciate your patience during revitalization of this vital and historic residence hall.
