One of the many benefits of working in UMW’s Special Collections and University Archives is the opportunity to uncover stories that connect the past with the present.
This summer, student assistant Ellis Fraser ’26 explored the rare book collections housed in the Reading Room of Simpson Library, examining a remarkable collection of works by and about influential American writer Gertrude Stein. Fraser’s research became the basis for a new blog post that traces Stein’s literary legacy, highlighting connections between her writing and other authors and genres represented in the University’s collections.
The essay offers a glimpse into the unique resources preserved by Special Collections and demonstrates how students engage directly with rare materials through hands-on research and discovery.
Read Fraser’s essay and discover the stories waiting on the shelves of Special Collections and University Archives.
