Chemistry Faculty Share Teaching Innovations at National Conference
UMW chemistry faculty attended the Biennial Conference on Chemical Education (BCCE) this summer at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Professors Janet Asper, Nicole Crowder, Davis Oldham, Randy Reif and Kelli Slunt; Associate Professor Leanna Giancarlo; Assistant Professor Sarah Smith; and Lecturer Suzanne Nguyen participated in the conference, one of the largest gatherings focused on chemical education.
Faculty attended workshops, presentations, discussion sessions and networking events exploring innovative teaching practices and advances in chemical education research.
Crowder, Oldham, Reif, Slunt and Smith also presented pedagogical work developed at UMW, sharing approaches ranging from specifications grading and helping students build laboratory skills to creating new research experiences within laboratory courses.
The conference is the largest centered on chemical education and provides a valuable opportunity for chemistry teachers of all levels to connect with peers from other institutions from around the world.
