Special exhibitions and events have commemorated Women’s History Month at the UMW Galleries; the exhibitions close Sunday, March 15, so catch them while you can!
The UMW Galleries hosted two special events this week celebrating current exhibitions and Women’s History Month. Both events were free and open to the public and welcomed members of the campus and Fredericksburg communities.
The Ridderhof Martin Gallery hosted “20 Women in 40 Minutes,” a lunch-and-learn led by UMW Galleries interns. As part of the program, interns each had 60 seconds to highlight a historical figure featured in Carolyn Marks Johnson’s exhibition Woman: The Spirit of the Universe, sharing insights about twenty influential women in a lively, fast-paced format.
The duPont Gallery hosted a talk with artist and UMW alumna Samantha Van Heest ’20, discussing her artistic process, professional practice and journey from art student to professional artist.
The galleries’ two current exhibitions — Woman: The Spirit of the Universe by Carolyn Marks Johnson and Origins: Samantha Van Heest — will close Sunday, March 15. Don’t miss your chance to see them! Ridderhof Martin Gallery and duPont Gallery are open Wednesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. All are welcome; visitors are encouraged to stop by before the exhibitions conclude.
