Professor of English Mara Scanlon was featured in a WWNO segment titled “Walt Whitman and the Nurse.” In the program, Scanlon discussed poet Walt Whitman’s connection to Fredericksburg, where he first witnessed the devastation of the Civil War and was inspired to spend the remainder of the war caring for thousands of wounded soldiers.
