UMW’s Goats Return for Another Year of Sustainable Landscaping

It’s always the Year of the Goat at UMW when it comes to tackling invasive species! The University’s four-legged landscaping crew is returning to campus, continuing a sustainable approach to managing invasive plants.
The first arrivals — Lenny, Squiggy, Gunny, Judy, Ruthie, Domino and Honey — are expected to be settled in by Friday, Oct. 30. These young goats are still in the weaning process, and campus community members are encouraged to stop by and welcome them.
The goats will remain on campus throughout the winter and into early spring, beginning their work around the amphitheater before moving to other areas as needed. Their appetite for invasive vegetation helps support UMW’s sustainable landscape management efforts while bringing a little extra joy to campus.
A friendly reminder: The goat enclosure has an electrified fence. Visitors should use caution and admire the goats from a safe distance.
Welcome baaaaaack, goats! We’re glad to have you here! 🐐🌿
