Stephen Farnsworth, professor of political science and director of the Center for Leadership and Media Studies, took a group of political science students to Washington, D.C., on Monday, Oct. 22. During the trip, the students met with recent UMW graduates about making the transition from college to work and met with Brian Lamb and Steve Scully of C-SPAN.

The students were able to ask questions about the debates and the election from a variety of panelists live on C-SPAN on Monday afternoon. Farnsworth provided commentary and analysis, along with professors from other universities.

Professor of Philosophy and Religion Mehdi  Aminrazavi’s  work has recently been published in The Great Umar Khayyam: A Global Reception of the Rubaiyat edited by A. A. Seyed-Gohrab.

The book includes Aminrazavi’s chapter, “ Reading the Rubaiyyat as Resistance Literature.”

As a reminder, summer 2013 plans (other than summer school sessions) which involve use of UMW classrooms, residence halls, and/or outdoor spaces were due to Susan Knick, Director of Conferences and Scheduling, on 1Monday, October 15.  If you have not already notified Susan of your summer plans please do so immediately.  Contracts for summer 2013 uses are being written at this time.

UMW Catering is pleased to introduce you to our new Catering Director, Steve Mathwin. Steve most recently served as the Corporate Dining Manager at CapitalOne Services in McLean, Virginia. He also has over ten years experience in hospitality management with deluxe hotels such as Omni, Marriott and Hyatt. Steve is known for building strong relationships with clients and bringing outstanding customer service to all aspects of catering operations. We are very happy that Steve has joined our UMW Catering Team and look forward to the fresh perspectives that he will bring to our operations.
