The University of Mary Washington invites the community to a panel discussion featuring UMW scholars of revolution, the Egyptian government, Islam, security and international relations. This event, “Revolution and Change in the Middle East,” will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, February 16 in Room 109 of Annex A, next to George Washington Hall.

Charles Reed didn’t learn much about the Freedom Riders in high school.
The University of Mary Washington today kicked off its semester-long celebration of the Freedom Riders’ 50th anniversary. Speakers included the Rev. Reginald Green and Joan Trumpauer Mulholland, who participated in the movement to desegregate interstate buses and bus terminals.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Two former Freedom Riders are helping to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the trip through the Deep South that challenged racial segregation in public transportation systems.
The fight to call for the issuance of a commemorative U.S. postage stamp honoring the late James Farmer, Marshall’s own, is still ongoing with more organizations and people including Farmer’s alma mater, Wiley College, joining in the efforts.
