The Stafford County Board of Supervisors appointed Associate Professor of Political Science and International Affairs Ranjit Singh to the County’s Wetlands, Chesapeake Bay, and Coastal Sand Dunes Board this month. This board works to ensure the integrity and health of local waters, including the implementation of the Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act.
Singh served on the board of directors of the Northern Virginia Conservation Trust (NVCT) from 2014 to 2025, including three years as the board chair. Virginia’s second largest land trust, the NVCT has conserved over 9,000 acres of local land and works in formal partnership with Stafford County. Prior to the NVCT, Dr. Singh was part of the successful effort to establish Stafford’s 3,000-acre Crow’s Nest Natural Area Preserve.
Singh teaches UMW’s “Politics and the Environment” seminar in addition to courses on international relations. He has been awarded a Waple Professorship for 2026-2028 to work on a book on local nature. His most recent environmental publication, “Life on the Move,” appeared in the peer-reviewed journal The Trumpeter: Journal of Ecosophy.
