UMW will transition from Duo Security to Microsoft Authenticator for Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) beginning July 1, 2026. This change is part of the University’s ongoing efforts to enhance security, streamline authentication services, and provide a more integrated user experience across Microsoft and university-managed systems.
What to Expect
Beginning July 1 after Finance year-end processing completes:
- Duo Security will be retired and will no longer be available for authentication.
- Microsoft Authenticator will become the University’s required MFA solution for supported systems and services.
- All MFA approval requests will be completed through the Microsoft Authenticator mobile application.
- All systems leveraging Microsoft Entra ID Single Sign-On will also leverage Microsoft Authenticator for MFA.
Action Required (If You Have Not Already Completed Enrollment)
To ensure uninterrupted access to University resources, please complete the following steps as soon as possible. You can view the registration steps in some detail at https://technology.umw.edu/email/mfa/.
- Download the Microsoft Authenticator app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
- Complete your MFA registration using the following enrollment link: UMW MFA registration page
- Verify your enrollment by successfully approving a test sign-in using the Microsoft Authenticator app.
What’s Not Changing
- Your University username and password.
