UMW Admissions Open House, Saturday, Nov. 11
The following message is from the Office of Admissions:
On Saturday, Nov. 11, the University of Mary Washington will host an Admissions Open House. About 200 prospective students (typically transfers and high school seniors, juniors, and sophomores) and their families will visit campus between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. for this event. Estimated guest count is 600 visitors.
A sample agenda is posted here. Visitor parking has been reserved in the Alvey parking deck off of Route 1 and on Double Drive. Primary event locations are the Anderson Center, the Hurley Convergence Center, the University Center, and campus/residence hall tours in Mason. Expect to see increased foot traffic on campus and curious newcomers at the Top of the University Center (fourth floor), especially between noon and 2 p.m.
While the Office of Admissions sponsors these events, the entire campus assumes the role of host. Our visitors frequently comment on how “friendly, helpful, and engaging” our UMW community is! Visitors shared the following about what they enjoyed the most during their recent visits to campus:
- “Everybody was very welcoming and this was an amazing experience!”
- “I really enjoyed meeting all the faculty. Everyone was super nice, helpful, and fun to talk to!”
- “Perfect size. Nice people. All around great visit!”
If you’d like to be involved in Open Houses or have ideas, please contact Admissions at 540-654-2000 or email admit@umw.edu.
Thank you for your partnership in showcasing all that is great about UMW!
Parking changes coming in January
The following email is sent from the Office of the Vice President for Administration and Finance.
To the campus community:
As some of you may have heard, the beginning of next semester will bring several changes related to parking around campus. These changes result from a parking study commissioned by the City of Fredericksburg that reviewed parking in the downtown area as well as around UMW.
Here are the key changes that will impact the UMW community, beginning in January of 2018:
- Residential neighborhoods surrounding campus will be restricted to resident parking only, prohibiting UMW student OR faculty parking in College Heights or College Terrace during the day Monday through Friday. This will include the residential side of College Avenue.
- On the campus side of College Avenue, a two-block stretch on either side of the University Center will become two-hour parking only.
Additional changes, including metered parking along College Avenue, are planned for implementation in October 2018.
A Campus Parking Task Force has been working since September on making these changes as seamless as possible. As updates become available, you can find them on the parking management site.
