Debra Hydorn To Attend Statistics Workshop

n, professor of mathematics, is one of 25 faculty members in the nation selected to attend the Inquiry-Based Statistics Education Workshop at Wesleyan University in July. The workshop is hosted by the Quantitative Analysis Center at Wesleyan, which provides support for quantitative analysis across the curriculum as well as quantitative teaching and research activities. Attendance at the workshop is funded by a National Science Foundation grant.
Charles Sharpless to Present Research in Prague
Charles Sharpless, Associate Professor of Chemistry, will present the results of his Jepson Fellowship research in a talk titled “Organic Matter Photochemistry: Singlet Oxygen Precursor Lifetimes” at the 2011 Goldschmidt Conference in Prague, Czech Republic, August 14-19. The Goldschmidt Conference is the annual joint conference of the Geochemical Society and the European Association of Geochemistry.

Jeff McClurken to Lead Civil War Discussion Series
Jeffrey McClu
rken, associate professor and chair of history and American studies, will lead a reading and discussion series “Let’s Talk About It: Making Sense of the American Civil War” at the Central Rappahannock Regional Library headquarters on five Thursday evenings from November 2011 through April 2012.
The series is funded through a highly competitive grant given to the library from the American Library Association and the National Endowment for the Humanities. Read more.
