UMW Graduates Class of 2011 in 100th Commencement
The University of Mary Washington graduated a total of 1,295 students during its 100th commencement in a graduate ceremony on Friday, May 6 in Dodd Auditorium and in an undergraduate ceremony on Saturday, May 7, in Ball Circle on the university’s Fredericksburg campus.
UMW to Award Emeritus Status at Commencement
Three longtime professors and a veteran administrator will be awarded emeritus status at the University of Mary Washington’s undergraduate commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 7.
Roy M. Gordon will be named Professor Emeritus of Athletics, Health and Physical Education, Lorene C. Nickel will be named Professor Emerita of Art, Joan T. Olson will be named Associate Professor Emerita of Sociology, and John N. Pearce will be named Director of the James Monroe Museum and Memorial Library, Director of the James Monroe Presidential Center, and University Liaison for the Enchanted Castle Site Emeritus.
UMW Psychology Professor Featured on Public Radio Show
University of Mary Washington Assistant Professor of Psychology Virginia Mackintosh says no youngsters are more at risk than the children of incarcerated women. Mackintosh discusses her extensive work with these youth and their mothers during an interview airing on the "With Good Reason" public radio program beginning Saturday, April 30.
UMW Sponsors Fifth Annual Calculus Tournament
Calculus can be fun. At least that is the opinion of Keith Mellinger, chair of the University of Mary Washington’s Department of Mathematics. Mellinger and his colleague Randall Helmstutler recently hosted the university’s fifth annual high school calculus tournament at UMW.
