STAFF ADVISORY COUNCIL NEWS
EXCELLENT EAGLE EMPLOYEE
Congratulations to Kate Wheeler, SAC’s Excellent Eagle Employee for the month of July. Kate was nominated by Mary Beth Conrad. Here’s what Mary Beth had to say about Kate.
Kate is the Director of Advancement Services and in that role she is the key person responsible for all donations received by the University. Kate is an amazing wealth of knowledge and is always willing to share that knowledge and experience with newer employees, such as myself. Kate is the “go to “ person for anyone in University Advancement, Athletics, Theatre, etc. when it comes to assisting staff and donors with donations.
Donations is a very complicated job and requires skill, experience and knowledge to get it done. Kate has it all! She is a “cross your t’s and dot your “i’s” kind of person, and when it comes to donations that is an excellent skill to have. It takes a team to get donations to the bank, starting with the mail all the way through entering the donations in the system. Kate can do it all!
Don’t forget to nominate your co-workers, supervisor, or employees for the Excellent Eagle Employee award. To recognize someone for excellent work simply send an email to eenominations@umw.edu with Excellent Eagle Employee in the subject line. Be sure to provide the person’s name, department, and work location with the most convenient parking lot, and the reason they should be recognized.

2nd Annual UMW Adopt-A-Pot
The 2nd annual UMW Adopt-A-Pot is here!
Landscape & Grounds has a surplus of annual plants. We cannot give them away, but there is no policy against adoption.
How it will work? L & G will put together annuals in decorative pots. Faculty and staff can then adopt one or a pair of pots to be placed outside on the Fredericksburg Campus and maintained by the adopter.
L & G maintains the right to: remove pots that have not thrived, award adoptions that spread pots across campus (not at just one building), match pots to the environment, decide to award singular or paired pots depending on the location.
Pots will come with a watering can and access to water at the closest spigot.
Submit an adoption request to Joni Wilson at jwilson@umw.edu, including your name, contact information and suggested location. Submissions will be accepted until June 23 or until pots run out. Awards will be made on a first come, first served basis and at the sole discretion of the Director of Landscape and Grounds.
