Calling All Authors: Virginia Festival of the Book
The Virginia Festival of the Book, a program of the Center for the Book at the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities, seeks applications for the 2017 Virginia Festival of the Book, which will be held in Charlottesville from Wednesday, March 22, through Sunday, March 26, 2017.
Professors or staff members who have written books in the last one to two years are eligible to apply. Priority will be given to books released between Sept. 16, 2016, and March 20, 2017. The program is interested in fiction, poetry, biography, memoirs, current affairs, history, Virginia stories, mysteries, science, science fiction, cooking or sports, with an emphasis on books that would appeal to the general reading audience.

UMW’s Psi Chi Chapter Honored
The University of Mary Washington’s Chapter of Psi Chi, The International Honor Society in Psychology, was recently honored as the 2016 Southeastern Regional Chapter of of the Year. This award recognizes the chapter as modeling excellence through programming and service and identifies it as one of the premier chapters in the country. The Department of Psychological Science would like to thank the 2015-16 office team and the membership as a whole for all of their hard work, which is truly deserving of this recognition.

Volunteers Needed for New Student Orientation, June 16-29
New Student Orientation will occur June 16 – 29, 2016. UMW faculty and staff have played a key role in supporting New Student Orientation by serving as volunteers. Volunteers are needed for greeting students and their guests, providing information, serving as directional guides and other tasks. The participation of UMW faculty and staff members outside of the Orientation staff is vital to conveying the campus culture at UMW.
