eVA Tips for Department Buyers
- When entering SPCC orders within eVA (PCO), against an established contract, include contract numbers within the comments field.
- eVA is the requisite statewide e-Procurement system, purchase orders should be entered to initiate an order. The practice of waiting for an invoice to enter the purchase order should be avoided.
- The XO2 purchase order category code should be used when entering requisitions to government agencies such as Virginia Correctional Enterprises (VCE), Virginia Distribution Center (VDC), Virginia Industries for the Blind (VIB), and Bureau of Capital Outlay Management (BCOM), for example. If you have any questions as to whether the XO2 should be used for eVA orders issued to other governmental entities, please contact Procurement Services for advice.
- The RO2 purchase order category code should be used for unregistered vendors.
If you need assistance with eVA, contact Procurement Services.

SAC Sponsors School Supply, WhyHunger Campaigns
The Staff Advisory Council’s Activities Committee is initiating two simultaneous campaigns that run through the month of August.
The first campaign is the annual School Supplies Drive, benefiting several area elementary schools. Among the items needed are pencils, spiral notebooks, erasers, crayons, glue sticks, tissues, and plastic bags. For a complete list of school supplies, visit www.walmart.com/classrooms/lists/57-Elementary-K-2nd-School-Supplies-List. Last year, the SAC donated to four area elementary schools.
School supplies will be stored on campus until Friday, Aug 29th, and then delivered on Monday, Sept 1. All area schools begin on Tuesday, September 2nd this year.
In addition to the School Supply Drive, we will be participating in WhyHunger’s Summer Food Program targeting our area children who have been fed at school during the school year, but may not have enough food during the summer months.
WhyHunger is a national organization striving to close the hunger gap between the close of school in the summer and beginning of school in the fall.
As we collect food, the Activities Committee will deliver the donations weekly to the following WhyHunger centers in our area:
· Bragg Hill Family Life Center
· Hazel Hill Complex
· Mayfield Civic Association
· Lafayette Upper Elementary
Current UMW donation locations for both drives are:
Fairfax House – Human Resources Office
Jepson Alumni Executive Center
Lee Hall
Marye House
Eagle Village – 4th floor
GW – 3rd floor
Trinkle Hall, 2nd floor
Stafford Campus – South
Facilities Services – Lobby
To find out how you and your department can help, or to become a donation location, contact Priscilla Sullivan, S.A.C. Activities Chair at psulliva@umw.edu.
New Name For Counseling Center Honors Alumna and Her Late Husband
The University of Mary Washington announces the naming of the Talley Center for Counseling Services to honor a significant campaign gift from Betty Dobbins Talley ’68. The UMW Board of Visitors approved the new name August 5, 2014, to supersede the title of the former Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) center.
A counselor for more than 40 years, Betty Talley thought it especially important to remove the reference to “psychological” in the new name of the center. “Counseling centers on college campuses should have an aura of easy access and warmth without any stigma,” she says. “I believe counseling should be available to help students get over those bumps that occasionally come up in life, or during major transitions, so they can grow and reach their full potential. Professionals and educators shouldn’t make them feel sick. Sometimes students just need to talk to someone.”
Located in Lee Hall, the Talley Center for Counseling Services is staffed by licensed mental health professionals. A part of the Division of Student Affairs, the Center is committed to furthering student development, and it offers crisis intervention, consultation, community referrals, and training and educational outreach programs to the entire UMW community.
The new Talley endowment will count toward the Mary Washington First Campaign goal, and it will enhance existing student counseling services by enabling the center to increase outreach and prevention efforts for early recognition of at-risk behaviors.
“We have a long family history in counseling and education,” says Betty Talley. “My late husband, Page, was also a lifelong counselor and educator. When we began planning our estates, we decided to support the two institutions that had given each of us our initial starts — Mary Washington and his alma mater, Western Kentucky University.”
The $50-million Mary Washington First Campaign began July 1, 2011, and went public April 26, 2014. As of June 30, 2014, donors have committed $30 million in gifts and pledges. Campaign contributions are actively being solicited for the three colleges, scholarships, the Fund for Mary Washington, program initiatives, and restoration of the amphitheater. The Mary Washington First Campaign is scheduled to conclude June 30, 2016. Visit the campaign website for more information.
