Eagle Dining is offering a new “Smoke House” menu every Wednesday for lunch in the Faculty and Staff Dining Room at Seacobeck. We’ll be offering delicious dishes like Pulled Barbecued Pork, Beef Brisket, Collard Greens and Mac & Cheese….all slow-smoked to perfection by our chefs. Smoke House Wednesdays will begin on October 17. Lunch is served 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM. Please join us!

eVA purchase orders should be issued prior to contractors performing any work. However, should the agency find it necessary to issue any eVA confirming orders, the confirming orders must be placed in eVA within five (5) business days after directing the contractor to proceed.

On Non-Catalog Orders to VCE you must select the VCE vendor from the Supplier Search list. Do Not use the ad hoc vendor feature to enter VCE vendor information. When copying an older Requisition, be sure that you select VCE on the Supplier Search in case you had ad hoc’d VCE on the previous requisition.

In the past two weeks, UMW students, faculty and staff have shown their generosity through Day of Service activities and National Student Day.
When Governor Bob McDonnell declared September 29, 2012 to be the “Day of Service in Virginia,” the UMW Staff Advisory Council (S.A.C.) moved into action. The S.A.C. Eagles in Service quickly replaced their school supply drive boxes with Day of Service food donation boxes and then went to work soliciting donations to fight hunger in Virginia.
When September 29 arrived, the group delivered 300 pounds of food to the Fredericksburg Area Food Bank. Priscilla Sullivan, S.A.C. activities chair, said she is very grateful to each UMW employee who donated to this crucial effort. The next donation campaign will kick off at the employee luncheon on Tuesday, Oct. 16.
On Wednesday, Oct. 3, more than 50 student volunteers gathered in Lee Hall for UMW’s Stop Hunger Now event. The students packaged 10,000 meals for children and families from impoverished areas who have been affected by natural disasters. The Center for Honor, Leadership and Service and the UMW Bookstore partnered to bring the event to UMW as part of National Student Day, a day that celebrates the volunteer work of students nationwide.

Free flu shots are also available at specified locations for state employees and their covered family members that are enrolled in COVA Care and COVA HDHP health plans. Several PBS stations across the country have agreed to air “A Fiddler’s Holiday” with The Jay Ungar and Molly Mason Family Band featuring the UMW Philharmonic led by Maestro Kevin Bartram.
Last week, an email from President Richard V. Hurley went out to all UMW alumni, parents, friends, students, faculty, and staff. In his communication, President Hurley asked members of the Mary Washington community to contact PBS stations to request the airing of the unique musical program filmed last December in Dodd Auditorium and around Fredericksburg.
Several alumni contacted UMW to acknowledge their support of the program and Mary Washington, including a loyal alumna from New York. “I am a life member of the Alumni Association, and I still take interest and pride in the school,” said Dorothy Shaw ’41. “While ‘fiddling’ isn’t my style, UMW is, and I’d like to see (or hear) this program with friends.”
Stations agreeing to air the show during this holiday season include WETA in the District of Columbia; WCVE in Richmond; WHTJ in Charlottesville; WVPT in Harrisonburg; UNC-TV throughout North Carolina; ETV in Columbia, S.C.; WQPT in Moline, Ill.; KCTS in Seattle, Wash.; WHMT in Albany, N.Y.; and the station Ms. Shaw contacted – WNED in Buffalo, N.Y./Toronto, Canada.
