The University of Mary Washington swimming and diving program earned Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) honors, including Head Swim Coach Justin Anderson who earned All-State Women’s Coach of the Year honors after guiding the Eagles to a second place finish in the NJAC Championships and six swimmers that qualified for the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships.

UMW Swim Coach Justin Anderson, Assistant Swim Coach Zach Shattuck and 2021 alumnus Joey Peppersack were interviewed this week on WUSA-9. Shattuck and Peppersack are members of Team USA, preparing to compete at the Tokyo Paralympics, which start on Aug. 24. Anderson will serve as an assistant coach on Team USA. Watch here.

UMW Trio Heads to Tokyo for Paralympic Games

UMW Assistant Swim Coach Zach Shattuck and Joey Peppersack ’21 are heading to Tokyo soon as members of the U.S. Paralympic Team, along with UMW Swim Coach Justin Anderson ’10 as an assistant coach for Team USA. The Paralympics run from Aug. 24 to Sept. 5.

UMW Swimmer, Assistant Coach Win Big at Parapan American Games

Joey Peppersack ’21 and Zach Shattuck brought some shiny new souvenirs back to Mary Washington after competing in the Parapan American Games in August.
Peppersack won a silver medal for the men’s 100-meter backstroke, while teammate Zach Shattuck, assistant coach of UMW’s men’s swimming, earned a silver and three bronze medals for the men’s 100-meter breaststroke, 50-meter butterfly, 200-meter individual medley and the men’s relay. UMW swim coach Justin Anderson ’10 served as head coach, leading Team USA to 62 swimming medals at the 2019 games in Lima, Peru. With 33 countries competing, the Parapan American Games is one of the largest events in U.S. Paralympic swimming, held every four years, one year prior to the Paralympic Games.
