Starting Monday, Dec. 18, UMW will have several maintenance projects spanning campus through winter break, including specific projects at the Eagle Landing/Village Parking Deck, UMW Apartments, and the Cedric Rucker University Center. Network maintenance is also scheduled for Dec. 29 and will impact several systems, whether you need to access them on campus or from home.
Please note the areas that should be unoccupied during this work.
- The access system will be upgraded in the Eagle Landing/Village Parking Deck, and the deck will be closed to traffic the week of December 18. After the upgrade, UMW students with Eagle Landing parking permits will access the parking deck with their EagleOne card. The RFIDs will no longer work and must be returned to the Eagle Landing Front Desk prior to winter break. There will be no change in how employees who work in Eagle Village (the mixed-use building) will continue to access the garage and building as a result of the project.
- Vehicles should be relocated prior to Monday, Dec. 18, as the parking deck entrance will be blocked. If you plan to keep your vehicle on campus through winter break, please note the snow parking regulations. For a list of parking lots please refer to the list of Parking Lot Designations.
- Employees can use the parking around Eagle Landing during the parking deck closure. Please do not use 15 minutes spaces for the work day.
- The parking deck will re-open to all traffic, including student permits, after Dec. 22, at the conclusion of the access system upgrade and resealing project on the 4th and 5th levels. The resealing project is on schedule to be completed this Friday, Dec. 15.
- Please contact Parking Management with any parking related questions: parking@umw.edu, 540/654-1129.
- Pest management work will take place at the UMW Apartments. Inspections will take place in all buildings, with intrusion closure work to stop pests from entering the buildings during the colder winter months. In addition, six buildings have been identified for attic cleanouts. These buildings will be closed to residents during the attic work, due to potential dust or debris. Residents are encouraged not to stay through the break and will be relocated during the three-day cleanout process in their building if they choose to stay. Please contact Residence Life with any questions.
- A water outage is planned for Monday, Dec. 18, through Wednesday, Dec. 20, in the Cedric Rucker University Center (CRUC) to allow for replacement of the pump that provides water to the building. The dining hall at the top of the Cedric Rucker University Center is already closed during this time. Restrooms and water fountains will also be offline during the work. Employees who work inside the Cedric Rucker University Center are encouraged to use flexible work schedules, work remotely, or work in other buildings during the scheduled timeline, and to coordinate their work schedule and location with their supervisor. Those needing assistance from departments located in the Cedric Rucker University Center are encouraged to first call or email the office or person they are trying to contact. Please contact Facilities Operations at (540) 654-1047 with any questions.
- The IT Department will be performing network maintenance on Friday, Dec. 29, from 9 a.m. to noon. During the maintenance, users can expect interruptions to internet and system access at all UMW locations. This includes access to Banner, MyTime, Canvas, Zoom video conferencing, Zoom Phone, desk phones, etc. If you have questions or concerns about this planned outage, please contact Deb Boutchyard, Director of Network Services, at 540-654-1217.
Thank you for making a note of the planned maintenance work across campus and adjusting your parking or schedule accordingly. We hope you have a wonderful winter break!
