Ridderhof Martin Gallery and duPont Gallery
The University of Mary Washington Galleries is pleased to welcome back the Mid-Atlantic New Painting Biennial exhibition in 2024.
Begun in 1997, this juried exhibition highlights new developments in painting by talented artists within our region. The 2024 open call received a record 593 entries and this year’s exhibition features 76 impressive and varied paintings from 69 artists working across eight states and the District of Columbia. From this expressive array, one work is purchased by UMW Galleries to become part of the permanent collection and three cash awards are given. Awards will be announced at the opening reception.
The Mid-Atlantic New Painting Biennial is made possible by the generosity of Alfred Levitt. Levitt was a New York artist and intellectual with an abiding interest in encouraging young painters.
Hours & Admission:
The exhibition will be on view from November 7, 2024 to January 19, 2025 in both the Ridderhof Martin Gallery and duPont Gallery, with an opening reception taking place on November 7th from 5-7pm. Admission is always free and tours are available.
A talk with guest juror Heather Hakimzadeh, Senior Curator and Special Projects Manager at Virginia MOCA, will be held on November 21st, 2024, at 5pm in Seacobeck Hall 145. The galleries will also be open that evening for attendees.

MyTime Message for FLSA Exempt Employees
Prepopulated Scheduled Hours on Timesheet and Leave Taken Hours
After being live on MyTime Ready for several days, Payroll has identified a common issue occurring on exempt employees’ timesheets. Leave taken does not replace the prepopulated hours. This is not an error, it is how MyTime Ready applies approved leave to timesheets which have prepopulated hours. In MyTime Ready, exempt employees will frequently need to manually remove the hours not worked from the timesheet on days that leave is taken.
- If leave is approved and added to your timesheet after your timesheet is pre-populated for the pay period (the first day of the pay period) then you will need to remove the pre-populated scheduled hours on the same day that you have approved leave.
- If the leave has already been submitted/approved and is reflected on your timesheet prior to the timesheet being pre-populated (the first day of the pay period), your scheduled hours will not be populated on the same day as your approved leave. The approved leave will have replaced the prepopulated hours.
Prior to timesheet submittal, exempt employees and their supervisors should review the timesheet detail and make edits as needed so the timesheet reflects the correct hours worked and leave taken.
Supervisors of Non-exempt Employees
- Non-exempt employees’ timesheets may require adjustment if hours have been recorded (in/out punches) on the timesheet for days leave is taken.
- Non-exempt employees cannot edit their timesheets; they will use the Change Request option to modify an approved time off request or to request adjustments to their recorded time worked
Employees and Supervisors, be sure to Save twice after making a change to the timesheet! Some changes will not fully process until the second Save.
If you have questions, please contact Payroll@umw.edu.

Monroe Hall has already been updated as part of the current renovations.
As a reminder, the Apogee MyResNet network is available in residence halls and extends to other buildings for residential students. The UMW network is available for students, staff and faculty, with the UMW-secure network as an option for UMW-issued devices. More information is available on our wireless networks page.

Invitation to Faculty and Staff Athletics Fans
The following email is from UMW’s NCAA Faculty Representative:
Are you interested in meeting more staff and faculty across campus? Do you enjoy watching athletic events? Consider joining the new Faculty and Staff Fans of Athletics group. Our goals are to support our student-athletes as they compete and to build even more community on campus. We have created a Facebook group for UMW Faculty and Staff to share announcements of home competitions each week, with a pick of one we might attend together
We believe there are more people here on campus like us who enjoy watching sports and also want to meet others from different departments on campus. This is a fun group and there is no pressure to come to specific games. Come when you feel like it and stay for as long (or short) as you would like. And don’t worry if you don’t know anything about sports. All are welcome! The first competition we are focusing on is the Men’s Soccer match this Saturday, September 28th at 1pm.
If you are interested, click on this link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/umwfacultyandstaffathleticsfans/ and follow to be added to the group. This group is only open to UMW Faculty and Staff so to confirm that you work at UMW we will ask what department you work in and for your UMW email address. You may also be added to an Outlook group for emails, and you can find more info about upcoming events on Instagram accounts: umw_saac or umwathletics.
Please let us know if you have any questions. Get Dirty, Go Wash!
