Construction on the Convergence Center building is scheduled to begin shortly. The building will be located on campus walk, next to the Library. Some preliminary site work is scheduled to start in mid to late March. Groundbreaking for the project is set for mid May — after Commencement exercises. I am writing to announce several administrative changes that became effective on March 10, 2012. These organizational alignments are being made to support operational effectiveness and advance the strategic goals of the University. Please note that these are structural changes only; they result in no additional administrative positions.
Information Technology: IT becomes part of the Division of Administration and Finance, reporting to Vice President Rick Pearce. Information Technology will continue to be led by Justin Webb, serving as Acting Chief Information Officer.
University Police: University Police, which is headed by Chief Eddie Perry, becomes part of the Division of Student Affairs and reports to Vice President Doug Searcy. Communications (police dispatching) will fall under Chief Perry and also is part of this move.
Procurement: In addition to her other responsibilities, Erma Baker, Assistant Vice President for Business Services, also assumes the role and title of Chief Procurement Officer for the University. Parking Management will continue to report to Ms. Baker.
Emergency Management and Safety: The Office of Emergency Management and Safety, which is headed by Ruth Lovelace, remains in the Division of Administration and Finance reporting directly to Vice President Rick Pearce. Emergency Management and Safety will continue to oversee the University Locksmith.
University Events and Conferencing: Susan Knick assumes the new title of Director of Scheduling and Events and will work within the Office of University Events and Conferencing under the leadership of Susan Worrell, Special Assistant to the President. This relocation will enhance the scheduling of facilities and coordination of conferences, while supporting the strategic growth of summer conferences and revenue enhancement for the University. Also reporting to Ms. Worrell will be Doug Noble, Director of Dodd Auditorium and the audiovisual staff.
Human Resources: Pam Lowery assumes the role and title of Director of Technology in Professional Development and HR Consultant, and moves into the Office of Human Resources. She will report to Associate Vice President Sabrina Johnson. In addition to her current responsibilities for technology training and consulting with end users in the application of technology, Ms. Lowery will become part of a team charged with developing a comprehensive Employee Professional Development and Training Program.

Hello UMW Campus Community:
On Saturday, March 17, and Monday March 19, 2012, the Office of Admissions will be holding its Destination UMW program for Admitted Students. The latest registration numbers indicate that close to 200 admitted students and about 500 total visitors will join us on campus each of those days!
The Destination Day schedule includes events and activities for our visitors from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., although we expect our guests to begin arriving on campus earlier in the morning. Expect to see increased foot traffic on campus and a large amount of visitors in the campus dining facilities. Our visitors have been instructed to park in the parking garage, but with the amount of people we expect to attend they will most likely need to seek other parking options throughout campus and on neighboring side streets.
Hopefully this information will allow you to plan accordingly for Saturday and Monday. Please feel free to help us in welcoming our visitors to the University of Mary Washington.

The following information is from the UMW Sports Information Director:
The University of Mary Washington women’s basketball team will host the sectional rounds of the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament in Fredericksburg on Friday, March 9, and Saturday, March 10. On Friday, George Fox University will take on Bowdoin College at 5:00 p.m., with Mary Washington facing Lebanon Valley College at 7:00 p.m. On Saturday, March 10, the two winners will meet with a trip to the Final Four on the line.
All UMW faculty, staff, and students will be admitted for free with a valid UMW I.D. Other tickets will cost $7 for adults, and $4 for students and senior citizens.
Those who live in residence halls who would like to come back from Spring Break early for the games on Friday and Saturday may request an early opening from Residence Life. Anyone who would like to come back early can email rlif@umw.edu.
