Surupa Gupta, associate professor of Political Science and International Affairs, delivered a lecture titled “Food Fights at the WTO: Political Economy of India’s Focus on Food Security in International Trade Negotiations” on Friday, Jan. 26, 2018, as part of a speaker series at the Asian Studies Center at the University of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania.

Surupa Gupta, associate professor of Political Science and International Affairs, delivered a lecture titled “Why Does India Need to WTO” to the faculty of Political Science, Delhi University, during her recent visit to New Delhi.
Gupta Presents at International Conference
Surupa Gupta, associate professor of Political Science and International Affairs, presented a paper titled “Shifting Goal-posts: Global IPR Norms and the U.S.-India Conflict” at the annual meeting of the International Political Science Association held in Poznan, Poland, during July 23-28, 2016. The paper was based on her research on U.S.-India relations as an East-West Center fellow during her sabbatical.
Gupta Publishes Research Article
Surupa Gupta, associate professor of Political Science and International Affairs, co-wrote a research paper titled “Agriculture and its Discontents: Coalitional Politics at the WTO with Special Reference to India’s Food Security Interests” with J. P. Singh. The paper was published in a special issue on “Developing Countries, Emerging Powers and the WTO” of International Negotiations, a peer-reviewed journal.

Gupta Speaks on Multilateral Trade Negotiations at American University
Surupa Gupta, associate professor of political science and international affairs, spoke at a panel titled “Trade Policy Now and Beyond the Nairobi Ministerial” at the 11th symposium on International Trade at the Washington College of Law at American University. This was the first of three panels that had participants from U.S. and Brazilian governments, academia, private sector and think tanks.

Gupta Awarded Asia Studies Fellowship
The East-West Center, a Washington, D.C., and Honolulu-based policy think tank, has awarded an Asia Studies fellowship to Surupa Gupta, associate professor of political science and international affairs. Gupta will be a resident fellow this fall at the Washington, D.C., office working on U.S.-India relations with a focus on trade and intellectual property rights.
