Collection bins for non-perishable food items are available in all dining facilities, the UMW Book Store, the Fitness Center, the Andersen Center, and the Giant Food store in Eagle Village.  Donations may also be dropped off near the FRED bus stop on College Avenue outside Seacobeck Hall between noon and 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 20.

Campus Dining will also be selling discounted canned goods at the Eagle’s Nest between noon and 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 18.  Donation bins will be located nearby so those wishing to contribute can purchase a can of food for 50 cents or $1, and then drop the donation in the bin.

Besides benefiting the Fredericksburg Area Food Bank, donations will also help our UMW Athletic Department win the conference food collection championship.  The title is held by Christopher Newport University, and our athletes want to “Can CNU”!

The Stop Hunger campaign is an annual food drive sponsored by Sodexo, Inc. and its non-profit Sodexo Foundation, which is dedicated to reducing hunger in the U. S. Servers Needed for Seacobeck Holiday Meals

Campus Dining will be serving  a grand Thanksgiving Dinner Nov. 21, a festive Holiday Dinner Dec. 4, and a free “Midnight Breakfast” Dec. 9 for UMW students at the Restaurants of Seacobeck. It’s a wonderful tradition for members of the faculty and staff to volunteer as guest servers at these lively events. Students get a great kick out of being served their meal by staffers, administrators,  or professors all decked out in chefs’ hats and aprons!

For the dinner services we ask volunteers to work for a one hour shift. Shifts begin at 4:45 p.m., 5:45 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. For the Midnight Breakfast volunteers are asked to work from 10:45 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.  If you are interested in helping with any of these delightful events, please contact Rose Benedict at rbenedic@umw.edu

STOP Hunger Food Drive

Campus Dining’s Annual STOP Hunger Food Drive will run Nov. 4  to 20.  We invite everyone to join us in collecting food to donate to the Fredericksburg Area Food Bank, which is in great need of our support. Donation bins will be located in all dining facilities, and we encourage you to set up collection boxes in your offices and classrooms, too. Donations may be brought to our dining bins at any time, or be dropped off at our curb-side collection site outside Seacobeck Hall by the FRED bus stop  between noon and 5 p.m. on Nov. 20.

All donations made to our general collection bins Nov. 11 to 20 will be “credited” to the Athletic Department as they seek to take first place in their conference food drive competition. We hope you will all help make this the most successful campus food drive ever!  Our goal is to collect over 3,000 pounds of food, and we know we can make it happen!  For more information, contact Rose Benedict at rbenedic@umw.edu.
