Friday Jeans Policy Update
The Staff Advisory Council (S.A.C.) is pleased to announce that the President’s Cabinet has approved an update to the existing dress code policy which permits staff to wear jeans on Fridays. The policy now states: Jeans should be professional in appearance with no holes, slits, rips, or tears. Supervisors have discretion to determine appropriate dress, based on departmental business needs.
To review the complete policy, please visit BoardDocs. Employees are encouraged to consult with their supervisor to ensure that jeans on Fridays are acceptable.
The S.A.C. would like to thank Rick Pearce, the Vice President for Administration and Finance & CFO for requesting that the Council revisit this policy. We would like to remind you that you can do this as well. Please feel free to contact your S.A.C. representative with your suggestions. You may also submit suggestions anonymously by visiting our webpage suggestion box.
I would personally like to thank each and every one of our Staff Advisory Council members. Your participation and input was invaluable during the policy revision process.
Thanks,
Laura Allison
Staff Advisory Council President

Admissions Hosts Open House, Feb. 16
On Monday, Feb. 16, 2015, the University of Mary Washington will host an Admissions Open House. Over 400 prospective students (typically transfers and high school seniors, juniors, and sophomores) and their families will visit campus between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. for this event. Estimated guest count is 750 visitors.
Visitor parking has been reserved in the parking deck off of Route 1. Primary event locations are the Anderson Center, Lee Hall, Seacobeck Dining Hall, and residence hall/special interest tours in Randolph, Jepson, duPont, and Melchers. Expect to see increased foot traffic on campus (especially between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.) and curious newcomers in the dining facilities. Help them know their presence is a pleasure by anticipating the crowds and responding warmly, especially in the dining hall where crowds will be heavy between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Faculty and staff will be involved in the Academic Showcase (9 a.m., Anderson Center) and Academic Spotlights (Noon and 1 p.m., various locations), and student leaders will be panelists for an Inside Student Life session (10 a.m., Anderson). Thank you to all UMW partners who will spend part of their day highlighting our community. An agenda is posted here: http://admissions.umw.edu/undergraduate/files/2015/02/Agenda-Feb-16-2015.pdf.
If you’d like to be involved in Open Houses or have ideas, please contact Admissions at 540-654-2000 or email admit@umw.edu.

One way to show your support is to tweet to @UMWAdmissions and/or post to Instagram and tag @UMWAdmissions. We would like to see #UMWOpenHouse trending throughout the day.

UMW Theatre Continues 2014-15 Season with “The Drunken City”
The University of Mary Washington’s Department of Theatre & Dance will continue its 2014-15 season with The Drunken City, a comedy by Adam Bock.
Performances will take place Feb. 12-14 and 19-21 at 8 p.m. and Feb. 15, 21 and 22 at 2 p.m. in Klein Theatre, located in duPont Hall on UMW’s Fredericksburg campus.
In The Drunken City, bride-to-be Marnie and her two bridesmaids, Linda and Melissa, take to the city that never sleeps for one last night of bachelorette fun. When they meet Frank and Eddie during their bar crawl, the bridal party becomes the only thing between the bride-to-be and a huge mistake. While exploring “Sex and the City” themes, the play proves that happiness and heartache are two sides of the same coin.
Canadian playwright Adam Bock is the resident playwright at Encore Theatre and a Shotgun Players Artistic Associate. The Drunken City was originally commissioned by the Kitchen Theatre Company in Ithaca, New York and was nominated for an Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Off-Broadway Play in 2008.
The Drunken City is directed by Gregg Stull, professor and chair of the Department of Theatre & Dance and Department of Music. Scenic design is by Associate Professor Julie Hodge and lighting design is by student designer Christopher Stull. Costume design is by Associate Professor Kevin McCluskey and sound design is by guest designer Jon K. Reynolds.
On Friday, Feb. 13, the department will host a “Ladies Night Out” event at 5:30 p.m. which includes cocktails at the Hyatt Place Fredericksburg-Mary Washington and admission to the performance. In addition, the matinee performance on Sunday, Feb. 15 will be followed by Afterwords, a post-show talk with the cast.
Tickets are $12 for standard admission and $10 for students, senior citizens and military. For further information on the events or to purchase tickets, call the Klein Theatre Box Office at (540) 654-1111 or visit http://www.umw.tix.com.
