Angela Lynch Named March’s Excellent Eagle

Congratulations to Associate Registrar Angela Lynch! Angie is USC’s Excellent Eagle Employee for the month of March. Below is what Registrar Rita Dunston had to say about Angie:

“Angie is dedicated to fulfilling her job responsibilities and continuously going the extra mile. She has become an expert on building the course schedule, and working with the department on schedule adjustments. She thinks creatively on how to improve processes within the Registrar’s Office. Angie has built exceptional customer relationships and always gives service with a smile. Grateful to have her as part of the Registrar’s Office.”

UMW Chili Cook-Off Winners Announced

2019 Chili Cook-Off Winners. UMW’s Chili Cook-Off was another successful SAC event.  More than 60 staff members came to the Chandler Ballroom in the University Center to taste 11 chili dishes and four cornbread recipes and vote on their favorite.  For the first time ever, UMW had a double winner with Rita Dunston, University Registrar, winning for both chili and cornbread. Congratulations, Rita!

 

Registrar’s Office to Present at 2018 MABUG Conference

The Registrar’s Office is set to be well represented at this year’s Mid-Atlantic Banner Users Group (MABUG) Conference, which takes place October 14-16 right here in Fredericksburg at the Fredericksburg Expo Center.  Brian Ogle, Associate Registrar for Student Systems, will present on UMW’s revamped academic standing policy as well as on our current commencement participation policies.  Evie Sherlock, Associate Registrar for Administration and Enrollment, and Kevin Caffrey, Senior Associate Registrar, will be presenting how UMW utilizes the waitlist feature in Banner 9, and Caffrey and University Registrar, Rita Dunston, will co-present a session on how the Registrar’s Office has successfully utilized social media to expand their role on campus and effectively disseminate information.  For more information on MABUG 2018 including registering for the conference, go to http://www.mabug.org.

Registrar’s Office Presents at AACRAO Annual Meeting

Rita Dunston and Kevin Caffrey, Registrar’s Office, presented at the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO) Annual Meeting. The presentation titled Social? We Can Be Social! discussed how to utilize social media to not only change the reputation of your office on campus but to also disseminate information to students in a “new” way. AACRAO’s mission is “to provide professional development, guidelines and voluntary standards to be used by higher education officials regarding best practices in records management, admissions, enrollment management, information technology and student services.”

Several UMW staff attended the annual MABUG conference from Sunday, Sept. 27 to Tuesday, Sept. 30 in Richmond, Virginia. The Mid-Atlantic Banner Users Group (MABUG) is an association of colleges and universities in Delaware, Maryland, District of Columbia, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, New Jersey, Tennessee and West Virginia that uses Banner as its student information system. The conference creates an engagement opportunity to discuss the latest Ellucian products, platforms, tools and offerings to support teaching, learning and business operations. It also provides an opportunity to meet with peers, discuss similar business challenges and glean best-practice advice. At this year’s conference, UMW presented a total of eight sessions, the most of any other college or university in attendance. The presentations represented an array of areas at the institution:

Electronic Transcripts Now Available

The Registrar’s Office,  in conjunction with the National Student Clearinghouse,  announced the availability of online electronic transcript ordering to its students and alumni, allowing users to order official electronic transcripts via the Web at any time, 24/7 . The Clearinghouse charges a $2.25 convenience fee for this online service.  UMW students and alumni can access transcript ordering by logging onto the Clearinghouse secure site.

Students and alumni who submit electronic transcript requests receive real-time order updates by email, request to receive instant mobile text alerts, and can track their orders online on the transcript ordering website. Among the benefits that UMW expects its students and alumni to realize from its new transcript ordering service are:

  • Convenient 24/7 access
  • Secure transactions
  • Immediate, secure electronic transcript delivery worldwide
  • Automatic order updates via mobile text alerts and email
  • Online order tracking
  • Ability to order multiple transcripts for multiple recipients in one order

UMW’s electronic transcript ordering service is provided through the National Student Clearinghouse, a non-profit organization serving the higher education community. More information on the Clearinghouse is available at www.studentclearinghouse.org.
