Lynne Richardson Teaches Customer Service Seminar, 8/16

The Chamber of Commerce and the University of Mary Washington have teamed up to present a series of business courses to the community. Each of the series is taught by one of our own UMW faculty who will provide attendees with a well-rounded education on the most important business topics. UMW’s College of Business focuses on engaged learning and each seminar will follow that philosophy. Here is the seminar for August:

UMW Co-Sponsors Yearlong Business Seminar Series

The University of Mary Washington’s Center for Economic Development and College of Business are collaborating with the Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce to present a yearlong seminar series on popular business topics. The Business 101 Seminar Series began on Friday, Jan. 18 with Accounting 101, presented by Gladys Gomez, lecturer of accounting in UMW’s College of Business. The series, taught by UMW faculty members, will continue on the third Friday of each month through the end of the year, focused on topics including marketing, customer service, social media, human resources, technology, finance and legal issues. The first six sessions will take place at the Fredericksburg Regional Chamber Office and the final six sessions will take place at UMW’s Small Business Development Center located in Eagle Village, all from 8 to 10 a.m. Registration for each session, limited to 25 participants, is $12, or $100 for the full series of 12 lectures. Debra Hockenberry to Present Research in England and France

Debra Hockenberry, visiting instructor of management and marketing, will present “The Ontological Phenomenon of the Unseen and the Unheard that Predicts the Propensity of Futuring™ within Creative Deviance, Intrapreneurship and Entrepreneurship” at the 21st Annual Conference of SC’MOI (The Standing Conference on Management and Organizational Inquiry) from Thursday, April 12 through Saturday, April 14.

Also, she will present “A Co-Posited Approach to Time, Space and Matter within Intrapreneurship” at the fourth International Conference of the Academy of Management and ISEOR Research Center on Organization Development and Change in Lyon, France in June.

In August, Hockenberry will present “Mother, Must I Start My Own Business? A Qualitative Socio-Economic View of Single Mothers in the United States” at the 2012 Ethnography Symposium at the University of Liverpool’s Management School in Liverpool, England.
