The 2018 Willy-Nilly Chili Cook-Off was a huge success. Thirteen participants, including several repeat cooks, served up chili both spicy and mild. There was chicken chili and beef chili and chili with beans and without.

Thank you to everyone who had a hand in putting this event together.  To those who planned the event, helped set up, helped break down, recruited cooks, spent time socializing with colleagues, or helped in any other way, you are greatly appreciated.

New Freedom Meal Card Available for Faculty & Staff – Campus Dining is now offering Freedom Meal punch cards that UMW faculty and staff can use to purchase meals at the Top of the UC, or for selected Meal Deals at any of five retail dining locations.  The Meal Deal option can provide faculty and staff with a savings of anywhere from $1 to $4 or more on the purchase of food items at Qdoba, Jamba Juice, Li’l Joe’s, the Underground, and the Market at the Nest.  Each card is good for 10 meals and may be purchased at any Campus Dining location for $60.  For more information, contact Rose Benedict at 540-654-2169 or rbenedic@umw.edu.

February SAC Meeting – The first SAC meeting of the new year will take place on Thursday February 15^th at 1PM in Lee Hall 412.  Our Guest Speaker will be Dr. Eric Bonds, Associate Professor Sociology & Anthropology and Faculty Co-chair of the President’s Council on Sustainability (PCS).  Formed in 2009, the President’s Council on Sustainability (PCS) consists of faculty, staff and students and plays a critical role in shaping administrative goals and objectives relating to university sustainability.  Dr. Bonds will give an overview of the council and touch upon some of its prior accomplishments as well as its goals for the future.  You do NOT have to be a member of SAC to attend monthly meetings.

Health & Wellness Fair set for March 29^th – Dining Services has many local vendors signed up to attend the Health & Wellness fair on Thursday March 29^th. HR has also invited our health/dental insurance companies, retirement vendors, Myactivehealth, CommonHealth and local banks.  This is open to all students and staff.  Look for more details in the near future!

December SAC Meeting – Our December meeting was held Tuesday. Dec/ 12. Tiffany Oldfield, Title IX Coordinator shared a Q&A session regarding the Policy on Sexual and Gender Based Harassment and Other Forms of Interpersonal Violence.  Also, Anand Rao and Cedric Rucker discussed UMW’s Community Values.

Workplace Celebration Guidelines – HR advises that during the fall and winter months when a number of cultural and religious days of significance are observed, remember to be respectful of the rich and diverse cultures that are ever present in our workplace and the communities we serve.   Please be mindful of inclusiveness and safety in your workplace holiday activities.

Holiday University Closing – Reminder that UMW will be closed Monday December 18^th through Tuesday January 2^nd.  The University will officially reopen on Wednesday January 3^rd.

COAR Pumpkin Palooza!    Staff/Faculty are invited to bring your children, nieces/nephews, and/or grandchildren to COAR’s annual Pumpkin Palooza this Sunday, Oct. 29, from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. There will be themed games and crafts being held on Ball Circle, as well as trick-or-treating across campus. Come in costume and enjoy an autumn afternoon! This is a great annual event that UMW students run and volunteer for – they would love to interact with you and your children there.
