An article by Dave Henderson titled “Inhibitors and Enablers of GAS Usage: Testing the Dual Factor Theory” has been accepted for publication by the Journal of Information Systems. Henderson is an associate professor of accounting in the College of Business. The article was co-authored with Marianne Bradford and Amr Kotb.
Garcia Publishes in Engineering Optimization
Christopher Garcia, assistant professor in the College of Business, recently had his article “Resource-Constrained Scheduling With Hard Due Windows and Rejection Penalties” accepted for publication in Engineering Optimization. The paper is already online at http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/0305215X.2015.1120298.
MBA Info Session/GMAT Strategy Session, Feb. 2
Join the College of Business for an information session on Monday, Feb. 2, from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at the UMW Stafford and Dahlgren Campuses. Meet faculty, review admissions requirements and discuss courses and concentrations for the MBA program. Guests will also hear from a GMAT expert and learn everything there is to know about the GMAT exam, the upcoming GMAT Prep Course, the free Sample Class (on Feb. 9) and the free Math Boot Camp (on April 15).

Executive-in-Residence with Daniel R. Wolfe ’84, October 15-16
Daniel R. Wolfe ’84 is UMW’s 2014-15 Executive-in-Residence. He is the executive vice president of Worldwide Creative at NBC Universal. Wolfe will be on campus in Stafford and Fredericksburg October 15 to 16, 2014. Throughout the two-day Executive-in-Residence program, he will interact with UMW students interested in various career paths. During an invitation-only breakfast program, Wolfe will speak to regional business leaders.
Students, friends, and alumni are invited to attend a free presentation by Wolfe on the Stafford campus Wednesday, October 15 at 6 p.m. A reception with refreshments and light fare will follow in the North Building.

About Daniel Wolfe
Wolfe oversees a staff in Los Angeles and London of more than 100 employees who provide creative, post production, technical and other support worldwide for the marketing campaigns of all Universal’s motion picture releases. His department is responsible for the development and execution of a films’ marketing message for theatrical trailers, television commercials, print advertising, new media, radio, theme park placement and home entertainment including, pay-per-view and video-on-demand.
In his long career at Universal Pictures, Dan Wolfe has been involved in over 400 films including the “Jurassic Park,” “Fast and Furious,” “Bourne” and “American Pie”franchises. Wolfe has been a part of 15 films that were nominated for Best Picture by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and four that won Oscars for Best Picture, including “Schindler’s List,” “Shakespeare in Love, “”Gladiator” and “A Beautiful Mind.”
Before joining Universal in 1990, he was a manager of creative advertising at New Line Cinema and prior to that, Orion Pictures. While at Orion Pictures, Wolfe worked on campaigns for the Academy Award winning films “Dances with Wolves” and “Silence of the Lambs.”
He is a graduate of Mary Washington College, which honored him with the 2004 Distinguished Alumni Award, 2007 Distinguished Graduate-in-Residence and serves on the College of Business Advisory Board.He has a postgraduate degree in communication industries management from Emerson College and is a member of the Motion Picture Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Kashef Majid, Assistant Professor of Marketing in the College of Business, received a UMW 2014 Innovative Digital Pedagogy Fellowship Award. Majid is interested in developing a course in social media marketing/analytics.

The Leadership Colloquium at UMW Teams Up with the Habitat for Humanity
The Leadership Colloquium at UMW participated in a Women Build on Saturday, May 3 to kick off Habitat for Humanity’s National Women Build Week. This national initiative occurs annually and will take place from May 3 -11. Now in its seventh year, National Women Build Week challenges women to devote at least one day to help build affordable housing or complete beautification projects in their local communities. The week also focuses on the homeownership challenges faced by women.
The UMW group teamed together with employees from the Greater Fredericksburg Habitat for Humanity to complete projects on a Stafford, VA home. Participants from UMW included: Andrea Cordray, Christina Eggenberger, Melissa Myers, Mary Parnell, Megan Petter, Lynne Richardson, Beth Searcy, Anika Wilson, and Aries Wilson. Colloquium advisory board members Lynn Pates and Jo Ellen Armstrong also participated in the build.
The Leadership Colloquium at UMW’s mission is to create a network and relevant learning environment to inspire women for a lifetime of leadership. Quarterly events and volunteer opportunities attract managers, administrators, educators, business owners and leaders of public, private and nonprofit organizations.

Worldwide Film Marketing with Dan Wolfe ’84, April 17
The College of Business will welcome Dan Wolfe ’84, Executive Vice President, Worldwide Creative Operations at NBC Universal, for a presentation on Worldwide Film Marketing in 2014.
Wolfe will cover topics relevant in the film industry to include modernizing a tired brand, the still developing international marketplace, new challenges and threats to the film business, the Fast & Furious franchise, and changing consumer consumption.
