Dear Colleagues: 

Beginning Monday, May 14, campus walk on the north side of the Simpson Library will be closed. All pedestrian and handicapped traffic will be detoured to College Avenue.  Signs will be provided to remind everyone of the new travel patterns.

Sidewalks and stairways within the construction site and a portion of Campus Walk will be removed to facilitate underground utility work involving water, sewer, electrical, and telecommunication lines.  Additional work commencing next week includes demolition of the bridge in front of Arrington Hall and the removal of some of the existing landscaping within the construction site.

Work in the temporary construction access road is continuing.  Expansion of handicapped parking spaces to be located between the Jepson Science Center and the new building has also begun.  As soon as this work is finished, new asphalt covering will be applied to all road and parking surfaces.  The Simpson Library access road (which has been partially torn up due to some utility work) will also receive a new asphalt coat.

Major ground breaking for the project is set for middle to late June.  Work on the foundation for the new building will start at that time.

Due to weather conditions yesterday, the work scheduled for Double Drive was delayed until today, May 10.   

Double Drive will be closed to parking for cleaning, painting, and maintenance from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Dear UMW Friends: As you may know, Jerry Moore, husband of much-beloved longtime Seacobeck employee Pat Moore, passed away last Friday. The family will be receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 10, at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Home in Fredericksburg. A service will be held there at noon on Friday. Also, Pat will receive friends in Seacobeck Dome Room at 2:30 on Friday afternoon.

Get your race on! Once again, UMW is a proud sponsor of the Marine Corps Historic Half Marathon on Sunday, May 20. Nearly 9,000 runners will hit the pavement around our campus, and we want to welcome and cheer them. Get into the fervor by handing out water at the official Mary Washington Water Station, near the intersection of Sunken Road and William Street. We need volunteers from 6 to 10 a.m. on race day.

We also need volunteer UMW ambassadors at the Half-Marathon headquarters and registration center at the Fredericksburg Expo Center on Friday, May 18, from 4 to 8 p.m. or Saturday, May 19, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. We will be handing out information about the school along with towels with our logo. It’s a great way to meet people from all over the country and spread the good news about the place where great minds get to work!

COMMONHEALTH WELLNESS SCREENINGS (Fredericksburg Campus):  Click here to sign up for your FREE and confidential wellness screening.  Appointments are offered from 8 a.m.—4 p.m. in Lee Hall 412.  Screenings offered include: blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes risk, and body mass index. 

S.A.C.BOOK EXCHANGE: Share your favorite book with a colleague and get a book to enjoy in return.  Sessions will take place from 12:00 p.m. -1:00 p.m.,
