Please remember to reset your bookmarks and favorites to the new Accounts Payable web address http://adminfinance.umw.edu/ap/.  If you use bookmarks or favorites to get to specific parts of our Accounts Payable site or to get to frequently used forms on our site, you will need to re-establish those bookmarks or favorites links.  

In addition, please be sure to use the website to get the latest forms that have the new website addresses within the forms.  If you use the search feature on the UMW website and cannot find the AP information you are looking for, please go directly to our site http://adminfinance.umw.edu/ap/.  If you continue to have trouble finding the Accounts Payable information that you need, please email payables@umw.edu or call Julie Smith, the Accounts Payable Manager, at 654-1226 to let us know your specific problem.

Join the newly formed Eagle Business Book Club on Friday, November 11 at 7:30 a.m. in the Minor Board Room of the Jepson Alumni Executive Center.

The club was formed to give UMW faculty and staff an opportunity to read books that pertain to our work environment—our goal is to learn and share best practices in the workplace!  To that end, each month we will read a different ‘business book’ and then discuss it.

The first book selected is a classic.  Dale Carnegie’s “How to Win Friends and Influence People,” written in 1936, is one of the most widely read and impactful books worldwide.  Pick up a copy, read it and join us on November 11 for a discussion on how we can use Carnegie’s ideas at UMW.

The Eagle Book Club Steering Committee members are Rosemary Arneson, Erma Baker, Donna Mejia, Fred Pierce, Lynne Richardson, Doug Searcy and Justin Webb.  If you have specific questions, please contact a member of the Steering Committee.  And we hope to see you on November 11th.  Oh, and it’s BYOC (Bring Your Own Coffee)!

The University of Mary Washington Annual Security Report has been published for 2011.  This report includes statistics for the previous three years concerning crimes that occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by the University of Mary Washington; and on public property within or immediately adjacent to and accessible from, the campus.

Also included are policy statements that address the school’s policies, procedures and programs concerning safety and security.  For example, policies for responding to emergency situations and sexual offenses are included.

As you know, we are moving to WordPress and the new UMW Web site will launch on October 7. Most URLs of department sites are changing, and we don’t want you to worry. Please note that we will provide automatic redirects as follows:

• Current department home pages
• URLs published in EagleEssentials, the Academic Catalogs, and the Dictionary of Academic Regulations

In addition, we are working with the Design Services office to make sure that any publications coming across the transom will use the new URLs. The above steps will cover you for the year until you need some reprints.

If you have any “deep-linked” urls (sub-pages other than those other than the links mentioned above) that are on current print materials with a long shelf life, please notify the Web Communications office (webmaster at umw.edu) to let us know so we can create a redirect for you.

The division of Information Technologies, in cooperation with the IT Advisory Committee, has completed an initial draft of the IT Strategic Plan and is seeking your input.  The UMW Strategic Plan <http://www.umw.edu/provost/faculty_resources/plan/default.php> calls for the development of an iterative two- to five-year comprehensive information technology plan and estimated cost for UMW’s Fredericksburg, Stafford, and Dahlgren campuses that is aligned with the institution’s overall strategic plan and operational budget.  The draft of this plan is available for comment at: http://itplan.umwblogs.org .  Comments submitted online will be reviewed by the IT Advisory committee.  The site will be open for comments until Monday, October 10.
