At the recent meeting of the American Psychological Association (APA), Dr. Mindy Erchull was a recipient of a Committee for Women in Psychology Leadership Award. She was recognized as an emerging leader among women in psychology because of her pattern of scholarship, mentorship of undergraduate students and service to the profession.
Harris Talks Top 10 Endangered Artifacts with Schubel
Scott Harris, director of the James Monroe Museum, is featured on Ted Schubel’s internet radio show discussing the museum’s participation in the Top 10 Endangered Artifacts contest. The museum submitted a Louisiana Purchase Bas Relief.

Assistant Professor of Mathematics Melody Denhere recently participated in a special session on Robust Functional Data Analysis at the Joint Statistical Meetings in Boston, Massachusetts. She delivered her presentation titled Robust Methods for the Generalized Functional Linear Model.
Washington Post Reviews Fringe Show
This summer, Cate Brewer, faculty in the Department of Theatre and Dance, starred in Monique LaForce’s new work entitled: Isis and Vesco Investigate the Curious Death of Dr. Freud in DC’s Capital Fringe Festival. The production was well-received, and according to Jane Horwitz of the Washington Post “Brewer’s Isis commands the Stage.”

Gupta Co-authors Op-ed in Foreign Affairs
Surupa Gupta, Associate Professor of Political Science and International Affairs, co-authored (along with Dr. Sumit Ganguly of Indiana University) an op-ed titled “Modi Bets the Farm” on India’s latest dispute with the World Trade Organization. In July, India refused to sign the accession protocol on a recent agreement that attempts to simplify customs rules. This is the first such multilateral agreement adopted by the WTO membership since the institution’s inception in 1995. Although this has generated hostility towards India from various quarters, we argue that compelling domestic and international factors shaped India’s decision to withhold its signature.
McClurken’s Class To Re-air on C-SPAN
A class session focusing on the 1939 film Gone with the Wind taught by Jeffrey McClurken, Professor and Special Assistant to the Provost for Teaching, Technology and Innovation, will re-air on C-SPAN 3 on Friday, August 22 at 10:20 p.m. The class, filmed in October 2012, will be broadcast in commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Atlanta and subsequent fall to Union forces.

Konieczny Publishes in Linear Algebra and Its Applications
Janusz Konieczny, professor of mathematics, co-authored a research article, The largest subsemilattices of the endomorphism monoid of an independence algebra, published in the journal Linear Algebra and Its Applications.
