The IT server that handles the Employee Direct Online CVC giving is now back up. CVC has extended the deadline for online giving to 3 p.m. on Oct. 16. Make your donation today to qualify for the drawing.
The University of Mary Washington Athletic Department will again include tailgating as part of the Homecoming festivities for Saturday, Oct. 25.
Parking spots reserved specifically for tailgating on Oct. 25 will be available at the price of $200 per spot.
This exciting aspect of Homecoming, reintroduced last year, bridges a gap to the past, when tailgating on game day was an annual tradition at the University.
To reserve your space for Oct. 25, please send payment to UMW Athletics at the address below, either via mail or in person. Spots will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis and are offered on a very limited basis!

Approximately 40 students and teachers from Chancellor and Courtland High Schools visited the UMW Department of Chemistry on Wednesday Oct. 10, 2014 as part of the Tech Tour sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce’s STEM 16 group. Associate Professor Leanna Giancarlo and Professor Kelli Slunt introduced the students to background information on fluorescence and forensics. The students toured the chemistry department laboratory spaces and conducted experiments on the fluorescence of household items and on the reaction of luminol with bleach.

In August, incoming UMW Honors Scholars participated in a common reading experience, reading the book “The Devil in the White City” by Eric Larson. To expand on the theme of the planning and architecture of the Chicago’s World’s Fair, Andrea Smith, Department of Historic Preservation, led the fall field for the honors program on Saturday Oct. 4. Twenty six honors students, Professor of Economics Steve Greenlaw, Professor of Chemistry Kelli Slunt, and Assistant Professor of Environmental Science Melanie Szulczewski enjoyed learning about the urban planning and contributions of Daniel Burnham (one of the main characters in “The Devil in the White City”) while exploring Union Station, The National Mall, and the National Building Museum.

Governor McAuliffe Fire Prevention Week Message: Fire Prevention Week is Oct. 5-11, and Governor Terry McAuliffe is helping the Virginia Department of Fire Programs sound the alarm that working smoke alarms save lives.
Campus Dining invites everyone to join in the fun of a 1940’s themed dinner at Seacobeck Hall on Wednesday, Oct. 15. The menu will include foods typical of the period, plus an ice cream soda bar! Dinner service is in the Washington Diner from 5 to 8 p.m. Reservations are not required. Cost for Faculty and Staff is $5. CVC Highlights
Give to CVC and You Could Win Passes to Disney World!
Pledge your Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign (CVC) donation online between Oct. 1 and 15 and you will be entered automatically to win FOUR one-day park hopper park passes to Disney World! Passes give admission to all of these theme parks for one day: Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom. Passes are valid until Aug. 1, 2016, and valued at $496.
A winner will be randomly selected via the online giving donors list after Oct. 15. CVC will notify the winner directly.

The University of Mary Washington will host the 1st Congressional District Debate on Monday, Oct. 6 at 7:30 p.m. in George Washington Hall’s Dodd Auditorium.
The debate will present Republican Rep. Rob Wittman, who has held the seat since 2007, Democratic challenger Norm Mosher and Independent challenger Gail Parker. The 1st District includes more than 15 counties and includes parts of Stafford, Spotsylvania, and the city of Fredericksburg. The event is free and open to the public.
