Doug Noble Named Excellent Eagle
Congratulations to Doug Noble, director of Dodd Auditorium, who has been selected as the Excellent Eagle Employee for the month of December. A parking spot of his choosing has been reserved for him through the end of the month.
Here is what two of his co-workers said about him:
“I would like to nominate Doug because he is one of the most dedicated and hardest workers I have had the pleasure of working with. He goes above and beyond the call of duty each and every day to ensure that all events in Dodd Auditorium are run smoothly and efficiently and that all patrons have enjoyable experiences. With his radiantly happy outlook, he brings joy to the workplace in all departments he oversees, which also includes the Events AV Office and the Office of Webcasting and Video Production.”

“I would like to nominate Doug Noble as Eagle Employee of the month. Doug is the director of Dodd Auditorium. I would like to nominate him because he works tirelessly in one of the most important venues on campus. He is always cheerful, but takes his position very seriously to make sure the University is represented in an excellent fashion. CVC 2013
CVC 2013 is quickly coming to a close. With all that goes on at this time of year, it is very possible that you have planned to pledge and just not gotten around to it yet. If you need any information with regard to pledging for this year’s campaign, contact your ambassador or me and we will get you the information you need. Here is one more charity spotlight:
Crossroads to Brain Injury Recovery, Inc.
Like the 1.7 million Americans who are affected by brain injury each year, this client sustained a brain injury that affects him physically and cognitively. “I had trouble speaking,” he says. “I had to talk completely slowly. I had to keep reminding myself how to talk slowly.”
This client currently lives with his mother, and it is his dream to live on his own. The client became aware of Crossroads only recently even though he sustained his brain injury as a small child. He had been struggling most of his life with the effects of his injury. Now, with the help of his case manager, he has been setting his own goals and moving toward the independence he desires. Together, the client and Crossroads have worked on life skills such as cooking, using assistive technology, managing money, housekeeping, and taking medications accurately.
The client is now enrolled in classes to obtain his GED. He enjoys frequent trips to the library to borrow books and use the computer. He likes being able to take care of himself, but he doesn’t know where he will be in five years. “Probably driving,” he says. “That’s one of my goals is to learn to drive, and probably living on my own.”
Crossroads to Brain Injury Recovery will continue to partner, support and guide the client as he works at increasing his independence. “They are doing a great job!” he says.

One Can Hope Campaign Continues to Support Feed Fred
We’ve helped to feed Fred another week! The Feed Fred representative left with 5 boxes, several bags, and two cases of Ensure (what a great idea) on Friday, Nov. 22.
I don’t know why I am still amazed at the generosity that pours out at each campaign, because UMW employees come through again and again, without fail.
Our One Can Hope campaign has definitely turned into a more-than-one can/bag/box of hope, and it really touches me to know that UMW has done its part to help prevent our area adults and children from being hungry week after week. And even though slightly more labor-intensive, our new campaign format — donations going out every Friday — has helped Feed Fred tremendously with their efforts in feeding our area’s homeless and hungry individuals and families.
Thank you all again for your commitment and continuing work in this important undertaking.

Read the latest issue of the Heritage newsletter featuring stories about alumni and faculty, including Nanalou West Sauder ’56, Robert Lynn ’08, and John H. and Joanna L. Reynolds. This publication is mailed to alumni, parents, and friends of the University who have already made plans to include Mary Washington in their estates, as well as to those who may be considering giving options to support UMW students and programs.
Holiday Dining
The Faculty and Staff Dining Room will be open and serving lunch on Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 25 and 26. The Wholly Habaneros Food Truck and EagleExpress Food Cart will not be open on Monday or Tuesday. All dining services will resume regular operations on Monday, Dec. 2.
Our Holiday Lunch for Faculty and Staff will be served on Wednesday, Dec. 4 between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. The cost is $6 for faculty and staff and $8.35 plus tax for guests. The Holiday Dinner for students will be served that same evening in all the dining rooms at Seacobeck between 5 and 8 p.m. Members of the faculty and staff are welcome to join us at a cost of $6. The dinner cost for guests is $11.40 plus tax. Menus for the lunch and dinner will be on the dining website Dec. 2 at www.umwdining.com. Food Drive Collects 3,500 Pounds of Food!
Campus Dining, in partnership with the UMW Athletic Department, collected more than 3,500 pounds of food in Sodexo’s STOP Hunger Food Drive, exceeding the goal by more than 500 pounds! All of the food collected was donated to the Fredericksburg Area Food Bank, so it will directly benefit our community. Campus Dining wishes to thank Philip Pierce, all of the UMW athletes, the UMW Bookstore, everyone in our campus community, and Giant Food Stores for their help in making this such a successful campaign.
