Alzheimer’s disease is the single largest unaddressed public health threat facing the nation today. As many as 5.4.million Americans are living with the disease and nearly 15 million are acting as caregivers.
The number of Americans with Alzheimer’s disease is skyrocketing. The baby boomer generation is growing older — and age is the greatest risk factor for developing Alzheimer’s.
UMW’s Team Apollo 11 is walking at the Walk to End Alzheimer’s on September 28 to help end this disease. The end of Alzheimer’s starts here, with a gift from you. Please consider supporting our efforts with a donation.
Every Wednesday Campus Dining offers an enticing, slow-smoked carved meat in the Faculty and Staff Dining Room for lunch. On October 2 we will feature Smoked Turkey Breast. Lunch is served between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Please join us!

On Wednesday, October 2, University of Mary Washington Dining Services by Sodexo will launch a reusable “to go” container program. Choose to Reuse is a reusable container program developed especially for Sodexo campus services to reduce waste and help achieve Sodexo’s Better Tomorrow Plan commitments by replacing single-use disposable food containers with reusable containers.
The cost is $5 per semester, and students can use their meal plan flex dollars to make the purchase. Students may “buy in” to the program at any of five campus dining locations. When they return the used containers to the resident dining hall they can receive a new container, or if they prefer, they can get a token which they can redeem for a container at a later time.

Center for Teaching Excellence and Innovation and UMW Center for Leadership and Media Studies is pleased to announce the ‘Open Dialogue’ –The Global President: International Media and the U.S. Government.
When: October 7, 2013
Where: Woodard Campus Center, Red Room
Time: 4-5 p.m.
Please join Stephen Farnsworth in the department of political science on October 7, 2013 for an engaging session and lively discussion on his newly published book The Global President: International Media and the U.S. Government.
This book provides an expansive international examination of news coverage of U.S. political communication, and the roles the U.S. government and the presidency play in an increasingly communicative and interconnected political world. This comprehensive yet concise text includes analyses of not just the presidency, but U.S. foreign policy and contemporary political media itself. The realities of an ever-changing political landscape are magnified nowhere more greatly than in the realm of foreign policy, and the stakes surrounding the need for quality communicational skills are no higher than at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue because – when the voices of the U.S. government speak – the world is listening.
Light refreshments will be served!
