Srivastava Organizes Sixth Global Management Conference
Mukesh Srivastava, professor of management information systems, organized the sixth International Conference of the Association of Global Management Studies at the Lerner Hall, Columbia University, New York, NY on June 10 and 11, 2015. The theme of the conference is “Global Management and Innovation across Businesses.”
This conference continues to provide a platform to discuss challenges pertaining to the contemporary issues in global management. It also fosters an environment for multidisciplinary global research involved in the development of theoretical and practice knowledge of all business and related fields by researchers, educators, developers and practitioners.
Global Participation of Scholars
This year, 91 papers were submitted and 30 were selected for presentation at the conference and publications in the ICAGMS 2015 Proceedings; selected quality papers are slated to be published in the International Journal of Global Management Studies or International Journal of Global Management Studies Professional.
Academics from fourteen countries including Australia, Canada, China, Germany, Malaysia, New Zealand, Norway, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, UAE, UK, U.S.A. and Vietnam presented their scholarly research work on global management study. This year’s keynote address was delivered by Professor Noel Capon, R. C. Kopf Professor of International Marketing, Columbia Business School, Columbia University, New York on Managing Global Accounts, which was well received by the audience.
Srivastava Organizes International Conference
Mukesh Srivastava is organizing the fifth International Conference of the Association of Global Management Studies at the Saïd Business School, University of Oxford in the United Kingdom on May 20 and 21, 2014 with John Saee, of the ESB School of Business, Reutlingen University in Germany. The theme of the conference is “Global Management and Innovation across Businesses.”
This conference will provide a platform to discuss challenges pertaining to the contemporary issues in global management and will foster an environment for multidisciplinary global research involved in the development of theoretical and practice knowledge of all business and related fields by researchers, educators, developers, and practitioners.
Global Participation of Scholars
Of 93 papers submitted, 31 were selected for presentation at the conference and publications in the ICAGMS 2014 Proceedings; selected quality papers are slated to be published in the International Journal of Global Management Studies or International Journal of Global Management Studies Professional. Three UMW College of Business professors — Louis Martinette, Mukesh Srivastava and Xiaofeng Zhao — will also present their research papers.
Academics from nine countries including Australia, Canada, China, Germany, Malaysia, New Zealand, Norway, UK and the U.S. will present their scholarly research work on global management study.
The two keynote speakers include Michael Barrett, professor of the Judge Business School, University of Cambridge in UK. He will discuss contemporary global collaborative innovation, and Sundeep Sahay, professor of Global Infrastructure, University of Oslo in Norway, will speak on frugal health information systems.
Srivastava Researches Marine Corps Historic Half Economic Impact
Mukesh Srivastava recently produced an economic impact report detailing how the Marine Corps Historic Half affected the local economy. Srivastava surveyed runners, vendors, organizers and sponsors on their spending habits during the event, including items like shopping, restaurants, gas and lodging. According to his survey, roughly 19,000 people visited Fredericksburg for the sixth historic half and they spent approximately $8.7 million. The University of Mary Washington was one of the sponsors of the marathon.

Srivastava and Martinette Present at International Conference
Mukesh Srivastava, associate professor of management information systems in the College of Business organized the fourth annual International Conference of the Association of Global Management Studies held March 4 and 5 at the University of California at Berkeley.
Louis Martinette, associate professor of leadership, presented “Perceived Customer Value: A Research Agenda Toward a Uniform Measure” with his co-authors Alice Obenchain-Leeson and Mukesh Srivastava.
Srivastava presented two additional papers on “Profiling Sustainability Curriculum in AACSB Schools” and “The Perception of Quality for Users of E-Learning Environments: Development of a Multidimensional Measure,” which is a co-authored paper with professors Daniel Tomiuk and Josefina Segarra from the University of Quebec.
This years’ keynote speaker, Richard Lyons, Bank of America Dean and Professor, Haas School of Business, University of California, Berkeley spoke on “Creating Innovative Leadership at the conference.
Of the 73 papers submitted, 23 papers were accepted for presentations representing nine countries – Australia, China, Canada, Germany, India, Korea, Taiwan, U.K. and the U.S. All papers presented at the conference were published in the 2013 (4th) International Conference Proceedings of the AGMS.
The Association of Global Management Studies promotes research and advances the knowledge of global management educators, researchers and practitioners. Founded in 2009 by Srivastava, it publishes two journals, the “International Journal of Global Management Studies” and the “International Journal of Global Management Studies Professional.”

College of Business Faculty to Present in Ireland
Mukesh Srivastava and Lou Martinette’s co-authored paper entitled “Building a Sustainable Competitive Advantage” has been accepted for presentation at the11th World Congress of the International Federation of Scholarly Association of Management (IFSAM) 2012 to be held at the University of Limerick from June 26 to 29.
This research study focuses on the cross-industrial best practices in the context of the resource based competitive advantage model of the firm. It identifies managerial levers, tools and systems which all collectively combine to influence a firm’s ability to sustain its core competences and therefore its competitive advantage. Specifically, contemporary techniques are discussed that provide credible, accountable leadership, high performance recruitment, & employee rewards, retention of creative people, building a more engaged workforce, improved strategy definition and more balanced execution tools.
Mukesh Srivastava Won Award at International Conference
Mukesh Srivastava, associate professor of accounting and management information systems, presented a blind reviewed co-authored paper on “Co-creation in Vendor-Customer Matrix Organizations: A Boundary Theory Approach” at the sixth Asian Business Research Conference held in Bangkok, Thailand from April 8 through 10. He won Best Paper Award at the international conference. He also was awarded a fellowship by the World Academy of Social Science on Tuesday, April 10.
UMW Professor Receives Prestigious Fulbright Grant
University of Mary Washington faculty member Mukesh Srivastava has been selected to receive a Fulbright Specialist grant for 2011-12. Srivastava, associate dean of the College of Business and associate professor of management information systems, will spend the month of October in Tunisia to develop a graduate program in management and information technology for the Tunis Business School at Tunis University. He is the first faculty member of the College of Business to receive a Fulbright award.
As a recipient of the Fulbright Specialist grant, Srivastava will work with Tunis Business School faculty to refine and implement a new master’s program in information technology. His work at Tunis University will strengthen connections between Tunisia and the United States, allowing for future collaborations including student exchanges, abroad programs and visiting faculty.
